Imagine your Future in Nursing at Oneida Health

You did it! You’ve graduated, congratulations on one of the most impressive achievements of your life so far! Now what?

Join us at Oneida Health through the Transition to Practice Nurse Residency Program. Take advantage of a structured growth format, especially during your first year of nursing, and grow with confidence into your career!

What to Expect

  • Three weeks of Orientation: Follow our Clinical Educator on the Medical Surgical (MedSurg) Floor. Cover policies and procedures, an introduction to the Meditech EMR, and focused assessments for your role.
  • Release to Preceptor: Experience a transformative preceptorship, where you’ll work closely with an experienced preceptor—your mentor in navigating complex medical challenges. This focused assignment, lasting 12-16 weeks, fosters meaningful discussions that enhance your critical thinking, nursing skills, and medication administration. Elevate your practice and confidence as you learn from a dedicated professional in the field!
  • Classroom setting: An additional day of training off the floor will integrate leadership specialties or nursing skills as the main focus. 4-6 hours, 1 day a month. Classroom or simulation, case studies, and guest speakers.
  • Resource status: Once independent from your preceptor, you will receive a limited patient assignment until released by the unit manager/clinical educator.

  • Increased decision-making competence and confidence
  • Improved professional commitment and satisfaction
  • Consistent use of evidence-based practices
  • Strengthened clinical nursing leadership and communication skills
  • Enhanced critical thinking, through supported decision making and clinical judgement
